Learn the nuts and bolts of becoming an asset in the international consulting world. Discovering what it is that you have to offer in this dynamic field and the best fit for you, e.g., clients, sectors, locations & types of contracts, getting organized, prep work, report writing, timelines and deadlines, project dynamics, multiple-agency environments, building a collaborative network, the basics of working with other cultures, finding opportunities and marketing yourself.

Module II:
Serving in Developing, Remote and/or Post-Conflict Regions

Module Descriptions:

Acquire the fundamentals of working in exceptionally challenging environments. Such as, anticipating needs prior to departure, adapting to physical challenges & constraints, maintaining physical and psychological balance, obtaining personal and professional provisions, planning and execution in environments with significant corruption in politics, policing and rule of law, managing expectations, and working with interpreters, foreign nationals, for/alongside donor agencies, host nation leadership, peacekeeping forces, etc.

Module III:
Serving in Conflict Zones

Module Descriptions:

Learn the basics of consulting in dangerous, severely deprived and unpredictable environments. For instance, mental and physical preparation, practical communications, food & shelter, getting around, interface with US and foreign militaries, working with host nation population, collaboration with/between multilateral agencies, cooperation with humanitarian organizations, emergency preparedness & best practices for maintaining safety and security.

Program Objectives. By the conclusion of the following Modules students will have the capacity to:

Module I

  • Understand and communicate the nuts and bolts of consulting in the developing world.
  • Recognize and know the most common available sectors & types of contracts.
  • Comprehend and describe consulting fundamentals, such as getting organized.
  • Conduct relevant research, prep work, report writing.
  • Manage timelines and deadlines, project dynamics.
  • Participate effectively in multiple-agency environments.
  • Build a collaborative network & search for suitable opportunities.

Module II

  • Be aware of and able to communicate the basics of working with other cultures.
  • Describe the fundamentals of working in exceptionally challenging environments. Such as, anticipating needs prior to departure, adapting to physical constraints, maintaining physical and psychological balance.
  • Understand and demonstrate the how-to’s of obtaining and maintaining personal and professional provisions, working effectively in an environment with significant obstacles, challenges and limitations.
  • Comprehend and communicate what tactics techniques and procedures (TTPs) are advisable in project planning and implementation in environments of significant corruption in politics, policing and rule of law, managing organizational and recipient expectations.
  • Identify and implement actions designed to build trust, resourcefulness and effectiveness.

Module III

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the pros and cons of serving in Conflict Zones.
  • Identify and implement appropriate mental and physical preparation for work in dangerous, severely deprived and unpredictable environments..
  • Apply familiarity with the fundamentals of how to maintain your safety and security in violent, unstable regions communications.
  • Interact successfully and productively with traumatized populations, displaced peoples, refugees, foreign national colleagues, host nation leadership.
  • Exercise best practices for working effectively in conflict zones, food & shelter, getting around, interface with US and foreign militaries, collaboration with /between donor agencies, cooperation with humanitarian organizations, emergency. preparedness.
